SUMMARY:350 Conversation - What Climate Solutions Inspire and Give You Hope?
DESCRIPTION:Aikawa Solar Power Plant\, Aikawa Town\, Japan\, 1.9 megawatts.  One of many local solar plants throughout Japan – (Wikipedia – GNU Free License)  \nNews Items:  1) The second largest solar panel plant in the world just went online in September\, 2020: the Longyangxia Solar Park in China.  It generates 2.2 Gigawatts\, more than Hoover Dam\,  enough for 2 million people or more.  It was built in 10 months\, and includes over 200 megawatts/MWH of battery storage.  The lifetime cost per megawatt hour of PV Solar is now estimated to be well below coal\, offshore wind\, and nuclear power.  2) Citizen’s Climate Lobby shows a Colombia University study calculating that their proposed legislation US tax on carbon with bipartisan support\, H.R.763\, would cut green house gas emissions by 36-38% within 10 years.  3) Advocates of agricultural carbon sequestration believe a conversion to best practices could result in a total reduction of 14.5-22.3 gigatons of carbon dioxide by 2050\, from both sequestration and reduced emissions.  The transition could also cut operational costs\, improving profits by trillions of dollars.  4) Rewiring America estimates that with an intense effort\, we can ‘electrify everything’ in the United States.  They say virtually all industrial\, residential and transport energy use in the US can be converted to non-greenhouse gas emitting electrical power by 2030 for a cost within President elect Biden’s climate budget of 3 trillion dollars over 10 years. \nWhile Washington DC has been under the thumb of climate deniers for 4 years\, the rest of the world has moved on toward a sustainable future that has always been our only real option.  Now that we’re gradually freeing ourselves of the burden of corruption\, denial and stupidity\, what of the many developing climate solutions out there inspire you and give you hope?  Join us for another 350Marin open-ended community discussion on Dec. 17th\, 7 – 8:15PM to share your visions of a thriving world that has solved our climate crisis.   All are welcome! \nWe hope to see you online!
