SUMMARY:Novato "Deep Green" City Council Mtg
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday March 7 at 6:30pm\, the City of Novato will learn the results of its most recent Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory\, receive a status report on implementation of the City’s Climate Action Plan and consider a new sustainability staff position. \n\n\n\nThis presents an opportunity for 350Marin members and residents of Novato to encourage the City Council to switch its municipal accounts to 100% renewable energy.  Currently only San Anselmo\, Fairfax\, and Belvedere use MCE’s Deep Green 100% renewable option. By switching to MCE Deep Green\, individuals\, businesses and governments can reduce greenhouse gas emissions-that’s what needs to happen everywhere to ensure a healthy planet for everyone! \nPeople often ask how they can make a difference with climate change – encouraging local government to make the right decisions is one great way to get involved!  \nTo show your support for Novato purchasing greener energy\, attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday March 7 at 6:30pm at Novato City Hall. Council Chambers\, 901 Sherman Ave. Novato \n  \nBackground: \nAgenda for the meeting – Item #5 is the one you are here for.  HERE’s the agenda. \n350Marin members Helene Marsh and Sarah Loughran are working on a county-wide initiative to get municipalities to switch their electricity accounts (so all the public buildings\, street lights\, etc.) to MCE Deep Green.  350 Marin supports this initiative; it fits well with the goals of our Clean Energy campaign. \nIf you would like more information or have questions you can contact: \nHelene Marsh  415 300-7233  marsh.helene@gmail.com \nSarah Loughran  415 717-8581  sarahloughran@comcast.net \n19 citizen groups\, so far\, have signed a statement of support for this County-wide initiative: \nSupporting groups are: \nMarin Conservation League\, 350Marin\, Environmental Forum of Marin\, Citizen’s Climate Lobby(Marin Chapter)\, Resilient Neighborhoods\, OFA Marin\, Cool the Earth\, Coalition for Livable Marin (CALM)\, Marin School of Environmental Leadership\, Strategic Energy Innovations\, Sustainable Marin\, Sierra Club-Marin\, Sustainable San Rafael\, Sustainable Novato\, Sustainable Fairfax\, Town of Fairfax Climate Action Committee\, Mainstreet Moms – West Marin\, Mill Valley Community Action Network\, CA Interfaith Power and Light. \nPlease RSVP if you think you can make it.  Oh\, and if you have not gone Deep Green yourself with Marin Clean Energy\, you can learn more and begin the process by clicking HERE \n\n
